Discover the interconnected choral world of Latin America
This long-weekend workshop will provide singers with a relaxed and fun opportunity to survey the rich mosaic of both classical and folk music from Latin America. Expand your knowledge of the composers, their countries of origin, and the historical context in which the music was created. Latin American music is the product of the mixture of three principal cultures - Native American, Spanish and African. These influences have been combined in different ways to create new forms of music. The tri-cultural heritage of the region is reflected in its musical instruments, its rhythms and its language.
Our conductor, Dr. Diana Sáez, is the Director of Choral Activities at Towson University in Baltimore and a leading specialist in the field of Latin American music. We’ll live and rehearse on the bucolic campus of Bard College at Simon’s Rock in The Berkshires. Three nights lodging and all meals are included in your tuition. There is no public performance with this program, but we will sing a final showcase open to friends and family.
