2024 Covid Protocols
BCI maintains flexible protocols so that we can respond to current conditions and do our best to provide a comfortable and safer singing environment. The safety and well-being of all our participants is our top concern. We are guided in part by the CDC’s measure of Covid 19 Community Risk Levels, by the latest guidance to singing communities provided by ACDA and NATS, and by real-world advice and experience of the choral music community. We understand that masking and other protocols can evoke strong reactions and we have crafted our policies after considerable research and observation. Covid is an endemic challenge, meaning that risk needs to be managed through best practices.
What vaccinations are required? For 2024, we very strongly recommend that you have received the vaccine including an up-to-date booster prior to arrival.
What about masks? Based on medical trends and current practices of choral organizations, we anticipate that the 2024 season will be mask-optional. BCI retains the right to institute required masking if it is deemed necessary.
What if I want to wear a mask? Any singer that wishes to rehearse and/or perform wearing a mask for their additional safety is encouraged to do so.
Do I have to take a Covid test before arrival? All participants must agree to take a Covid antigen test within 36 hours prior to arrival day and truthfully attest to BCI that the test was negative. This may be a self-administered home antigen test or a test administered at a lab or pharmacy. No one will be allowed to register without providing this attestation. BCI will email you a link to report your test results prior to arrival.
Will there be additional Covid testing? For programs that require international travel outside the U.S., we anticipate also requiring an additional negative test on site during the first day of the program. Specific details on how this test will be administered will be communicated to participants in advance.
What happens if there are reported Covid cases during my program? BCI reserves the right to require masks in rehearsal or additional on-site testing if the level of community spread is elevated.
What happens if I test positive for Covid during the program? Singers with Covid symptoms or a positive test will not be allowed to rehearse or perform and will isolate away from the group. Additionally, BCI is obliged to follow any Covid policies that might be in place at the venues hosting our programs. We will communicate any additional requirements to participants promptly. BCI strongly encourages trip insurance to protect your investment in your trip.
