An unforgettable musical adventure in the birthplace of the Renaissance
Sing Verdi’s towering choral masterpiece with full orchestra in Italy. As his largest-scale non-operatic work, Verdi brought the full force of his dramatic talents to the Requiem. Our performance venue, the Teatro Verdi, offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sing in this historic Italian-style theater named for the composer himself (on the street named for him as well)! The theater was in fact inaugurated in 1854 with a performance of Rigoletto.
Popular conductor Heinz Ferlesch leads his seventh BCI program this summer. At the age of 27, Ferlesch was appointed Artistic Director of Wiener Singakademie by the Vienna Konzerthaus, the youngest Artistic Director in the choir´s history. He has prepared choruses for and worked with leading conductors including Gustavo Dudamel, Sir Simon Rattle, Franz Welser-Möst, Kent Nagano, and Helmuth Rilling.
Our week in Florence includes a guided scenic tour of city and some of its historic treasures. Optional afternoon excursions include entrance to the Uffizi Gallery and a Tuscan winery tour. Choristers will live at the Hilton Florence Metropole, a modern hotel with comfortable rooms, spa, pool and convenient access to central Florence.
Explore nearly endless opportunities for culture, food, and treasures of the Renaissance as part of your visit to Florence and the region of Tuscany.
Access note: the historic concert venue is not fully accessible backstage and requires navigating a flight of stairs.
