Sing Mendelssohn and Poulenc in Barcelona’s Palau de la Música with Grant Gershon
Sing and study in Barcelona, one of Europe’s most vibrant cities. Grant Gershon, music director of the Los Angeles Master Chorale, will conduct Poulenc’s jaunty and radiant Gloria paired with Mendelssohn’s stirring Lobgesang (Hymn of Praise). We’ll perform with full orchestra and organ in the world-famous Palau de la Música, a breathtaking Art Nouveau hall.
Our week in Barcelona includes a half day city tour and visit to La Sagrada Familia and optional excursions to the Picasso Museum and Montserrat. Choristers will live at the Catalonia Barcelona Plaza, with wonderful views of Plaza de España, the Fountains and the Palace of Montjüic. It is equipped with a panoramic rooftop swimming pool and terrace, a gym, and central access to transportation.
Our performance venue, the Palau de la Música, is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sing in this renowned venue, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The modernist building is designed around a central metal structure covered in glass, which exploits natural light to create a magical music box which brings together all the decorative arts: sculpture, mosaic, stained glass and ironwork.
Hailed for his adventurous and bold artistic leadership, Grant Gershon is currently in his 20th season as Artistic Director of the Los Angeles Master Chorale and his 13th season as Resident Conductor at LA Opera. Mentored by Esa-Pekka Salonen, he served as Assistant Conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic from 1994-1997.
