Immerse yourself in a dramatic performance of Handel’s oratorio Judas Maccabaeus, a heroic tale of resistance and triumph
Immerse yourself in a dramatic performance of Handel’s oratorio Judas Maccabaeus, a heroic tale of resistance and triumph. Julliard’s Gary Thor Wedow, a Handel opera expert, leads a work that rivals Messiah in choral majesty. Filled with rousing choruses, this will be an exhilarating week of singing. The Albany Symphony will be the orchestra for our performance.
Our musical home will be historic Skidmore College and the 54,000 square foot Arthur Zankel Music Center. Nestled in beautiful upstate New York and less than an hour from Albany, Saratoga Springs is a world-renowned summer arts mecca with an award-winning downtown, performing and fine arts treasures, cosmopolitan feel, and its famed horse racing tradition.
Gary Thor Wedow maintains a busy schedule conducting at many of the country’s top opera houses (Seattle, Glimmerglass, Florida Grand, and more) as well as many seasons with BCI. A conductor and educator well-versed in a range of repertoire, Baroque works of Bach and Handel are a specialty: a New York Times review noted that he led “a performance that caught fire and magic.”
