Passionate music making in the rolling hills of Virginia
Orff’s extravagant and theatrical Carmina Burana engages singers with medieval-inspired dancing, drinking, debauchery, and romance. With propulsive rhythms and soaring choral lines, it’s a singer showpiece. The program is paired with Brahms’ revered Schicksalslied, considered one of his best choral works. Together, it’s a program of destiny.
Jenny Wong, the dynamic Associate Artistic Director of the Los Angeles Master Chorale, makes her BCI debut leading this choral blockbuster. A 2021 winner of OPERA America’s inaugural Opera Grants for Women Stage Directors and Conductors, Dr. Wong’s busy schedule includes serving as chorus master for engagements with the San Francisco Symphony, Chicago Symphony, and LA Chamber Orchestra.
Our home for the week is Virginia Tech, located within a day’s drive of much of the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast and convenient to Roanoke Airport. Nestled in the beautiful Blue Ridge Highlands, charming Blacksburg is one of America’s top ranked college towns. VT’s stunning Moss Arts Center, celebrating its 10th anniversary, will host our concert.
BCI will organize an optional afternoon tour for choristers, destination tbd.
